Scantry was born out of the frustrations of a 2019 college student who kept letting his (produce, bread, dairy, and meat) expire.
A big part of this problem was visibility - if your food is all neatly tucked away in your pantry, how can you possibly be expected to remember that you still have half a loaf of multigrain bread, or two zucchinis that are almost too wrinkly to use?
This is where Scantry steps in. The Minimum Viable Product (MVP) of the app is an iOS barcode scanner, that returns data on the food you’ve scanned (or entered manually) and allows you to track it on your phone. This includes inventory levels and expiration dates.
Scantry’s initial release will include this functionality, as well as support for a shopping list that responds to your inventory changes, and updates your inventory as appropriate (i.e. You run out of bread, it goes on the list. While shopping, you check off bread - Scantry pops it back into your inventory.)
Scantry gives you the control over your pantry’s inventory, so it can get as specific or basic as you like. The power is in your hands.
In future iterations, we expect to support recipe suggestions, to help optimize the food that you have in your inventory. No more using that carton of chicken broth just one time for that pressure cooker recipe - we’ll make sure you get a chance to use it.
If you have any suggestions for Scantry, please feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected]. We welcome your feedback as we build this together.
Our hope is to have our first stable release ready for you by Q2 2025.
Cheers!
